Academy in Exile is accepting applications for two positions,
in science communication (65 %)
and in grant writing/management (50%),
at Freie Universität Berlin, Campus Lankwitz.
SCIENCE COMMUNICATION
Responsibilities:
- Conceptualization and implementation of science communication strategies and public relations for Academy in Exile, mainly in English.
- Editorial work in the online arena: content development (text, image, and multimedia content), creation of online texts, website maintenance, communication via social media
- Conceptualization and production of brochures, incl. text and image concepts
- Conceptualization and production of press releases and newsletters
- Editorial support and public relations for events
- Production of digital publication formats, including blogs and podcasts
- Proofreading/editing in English and German, creating and reviewing a wide range of texts for digital and print media
- Coordination of science communication in close cooperation with the members of the AiE consortium: Universität Duisburg-Essen, Kulturwissenschaftliches Institut, Forum Transregionale Studien, Freie Universität Berlin
Required Qualifications:
- Native or near-native German and English language skills, other language skills an advantage
- Master’s degree in media/journalism/communication (or equivalent degree) in the humanities or social sciences
- Professional experience in science communication
- Familiarity with CMS WordPress, video and audio editing, layouting, etc.
- Exceptional writing skills, high degree of self-organization and attention to detail
- Experience in international university contexts
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, adaptability, flexibility, as well as a self-reliant way of working, ability to work under pressure, and in a team
- Interest in fostering AiE’s dynamic activity profile

GRANT WRITING/MANAGEMENT
Responsibilities:
- Preparation of grant proposals and reports for Academy in Exile’s national and international funding bodies
- Programmatic communication with current and potential funding institutions
- Identification of funding opportunities for the overall AiE program and for AiE Fellows
- Preparation of information on existing research projects for public relations
- Development of templates for funding strategies
- Content and financial project monitoring/grant management – reviewing and monitoring defined goals
- Writing and editing texts for digital and print media
- Co-operation with the science communication office
- Proofreading/editing, review of diverse texts
- Assistance with budget planning and controlling
- Maintenance of the alumni network
- Interest in fostering AiE’s dynamic activity profile
Required Qualifications:
- Native or excellent German and English language skills, other language skills an advantage
- Completed Bachelor’s degree in the humanities or social sciences
- Professional experience in foundation management/grant writing/grant management/project management
- Exceptional writing skills, high degree of self-organization and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, adaptability, flexibility, self-reliance, and the ability to work under pressure and as part of a team
