Six times a year Freie Universität publishes a supplement in the nationwide newspaper Der Tagesspiegel. Last week, Raphael Rönn published an article in this supplement about university as refuge.
In many countries around the world, academic freedom is under attack – and so are academics. Freie Universität offers some scholars at risk protection and support. Many German universities and research institutions allow researchers to continue their work, even under difficult circumstances. In recent years, Freie Universität Berlin has been involved in several support programs, including Academy in Exile that allowed the university to host 27 researchers and artists who had to flee war or persecution by authoritarian regimes.
