Abstract
With the increase in economic participation opportunities for women, the level of the society’s economy will develop and women will achieve an independent income. Therefore, efforts have been made to increase the presence of women in the labor market and to play an active role in the social arena. After 2010, in Afghanistan, especially in Bamyan Province, women’s economic participation and access to employment opportunities have been improving, despite the many challenges and obstacles that existed in the way of women’s social and economic activities at home and outside the home. The economic situation of families that have provided employment opportunities for women and has included them in the labor market has also improved. The purpose of this study is to investigate the status and level of women’s economic participation in the labor market of Bamyan province and the factors affecting their employment status. This research has been conducted through the distribution of 57 questionnaires, interviews with women, and field observations of the researcher in the center of Bamyan and Yakalang Bazaar. Research findings show that cultural and social barriers, including common and prevailing beliefs about the role of women, which are rooted in societal institutions, traditions, and values, have reduced women’s economic participation.
